Lessons: to pay or not to pay…
So you just purchased a guitar, or maybe you had one for a while, and you want to learn how to play it, but don’t even know where to begin! Between all the books, videos, and websites, and creepy hippy guitar teachers, it can be a little confusing.
I created this website so that it can grow into a complete resource for guitarists at any level, and the lessons here are always free. The guitar tools on the internet are very valuable in learning, but sometimes you have to sift through a lot of crap, and it can be hard to find beginner lessons. Never the less, there is a great deal of information, free tab, free online guitar lessons, and so on, that are on this site, and other’s just a google search away.
Books can also be a good way to increase your knowledge (on any subject), but they are also very impersonal and can’t replace actual lessons. Books and videos are better used once you already have solid fundamentals.
The best possible way to learn guitar, if you can afford it, is to find a capable guitar teacher and take lessons. If you happen to live in Denver Co, send a Private Message to Chris, and he will set you up with lessons. If you live elsewhere, read my article on How to Find a Guitar Teacher. When you take lessons from a qualified teacher, he can show you what works best for you, and keep you from developing bad habits. Down the road, that can be a valuable asset, and well worth the price of lessons.
Of course, the second best way is the League of Guitarists webpage! Keep practicing, and let us know what we can do to make it better!
